Grin and Bear it! Wednesday, August 12th the legendary and untouchable Steely Dan indelibly etched an epic concert event into the hearts and souls of the lucky thousands who braved a dramatic storm warning at the Coral Sky Perfect Vodka Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach. The menacing reddish black storm clouds circumnavigated the venue and headed south as Steely Dan commanded the stage. The hit laced set list highlighted numerous classic rock gems, funky jazz driven melodies, infectious harmony and an air tight band complete with four horns, three soul sister vocalists, two keyboards, a solid rhythm section and the signature incendiary guitar riffs spot lighted by the authentic tonalities of Walter Becker. Every song reflected the tongue in cheek lyrical expression and superb song crafting of Steely Dan’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame duo, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. The definitively historical performance was capped off by the rollicking encore “Kid Charlemagne”. The extraordinarily talented vocalist and keyboardist Donald Fagen’s cool and polished delivery never missed a beat and his distinctive globally recognized voice glistened with clarity. “Kid Charlemagne” is the first track off of Steely Dan's milestone album, “The Royal Scam" and was dedicated to the most famous underground chemist in left coast history. The song portrays the amped up lifestyle of Owsley ‘Bear’ Stanley, celebrated recreational chemist, merry prankster and certified manufacturer, promoter, distributor and undisputed king of super high-quality LSD. Owsley fueled the Grateful Dead’s counter culture’s Acid Tests with high octane trips claiming to have created nearly 500 grams and over a million doses of pure LSD - 25 between 1965 and 1967 when LSD was still legal. Bear personally turned on and tuned in thousands of seeking souls and cosmic travelers to the parallel universes and multiple dimensions of psychedelia. The brilliant Bear served as a key San Francisco sound technician and helped design and build the monumental Grateful Dead “Wall of Sound”. Fagen and Becker compared the incredible exploratory efforts of Owsley to the Roman Emperor Charlemagne who united Western Europe including France and England in the the formative years of the Roman Empire, invigorating decades of innovative cultural and intellectual progress. Owsley united and fueled the aspiring Woodstock generation with an electric liquid transcendental journey beyond the shadow of doubt and into the outskirts of infinity. Owsley Stanley was born Augustus Owsley Stanley III on January 19th, 1935, the son of a Kentucky Governor, and tragically died in an automobile accident in Australia on March 12th, 2011 at the age of 76. The recent Fare Thee Well Grateful Dead original core four members concerts in Santa Clara, California and Soldier Field in Chicago honored Bear with a prominent display of his ash filled urn on the house soundboard. Bear never missed a show. Get along Kid Charlemagne. The clever lyrics of “Kid Charlemagne” resonate with a quirky edge of pure Steely Dan metaphor and truth. “While the music played you worked by candlelight Those San Francisco nights You were the best in town, Just by chance you crossed the diamond with the pearl You turned it on the world That's when you turned the world around, Did you feel like Jesus? Did you realize? That you were a champion in their eyes, On the hill the stuff was laced with kerosene But yours was kitchen clean Everyone stopped to stare at your Technicolor motor home Every A-Frame had your number on the wall You must have had it all You'd go to L.A. on a dare and you'd go it alone, Could you live forever? Could you see the day? Could you feel your whole world fall apart and fade away? Get along, Get along Kid Charlemagne Get along Kid Charlemagne Now your patrons have all left you in the red Your low rent friends are dead This life can be very strange, All those day glow freaks who used to paint the face They've joined the human race Some things will never change, Son, you were mistaken You are obsolete Look at all the white men on the street, Get along, Get along Kid Charlemagne Get along Kid Charlemagne, Clean this mess up else we'll all end up in jail Those test tubes and the scale Just get them all out of here, Is there gas in the car Yes, there's gas in the car, I think the people down the hall know who you are Careful what you carry 'Cause the man is wise You are still an outlaw in their eyes Get along, Get along, Get along Kid Charlemagne, Get along, Get along Kid Charlemagne!

Robert Nesta "Bob" Marley OM is the beloved Jamaican reggae singer, songwriter, musician, and guitarist who achieved international fame and eternal acknowledgement from the millions who love his music. In 1963 he formed the group the Wailers and forged a distinctive songwriting and vocal style that resonated deeply with audiences worldwide. The Wailers and producer Lee Scratch Perry created and recorded the timeless reggae gems that define Bob’s love affair with cool rhythms, conscious lyrics and the messages of Jah. The Wailers disbanded in 1974 and Marley pursued a solo career which culminated in the release of the album “Exodus” in 1977 which established his worldwide reputation and produced his status as one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, with sales of more than 75 million records. He was a committed Rastafari who infused his music with a sense of spirituality, life's challenges, equal justice and love. Bob Marley was born in Rhoden Hall in Nine Miles, St. Ann, Jamaica to Cedella Malcolm and Captain Norval Sinclair Marley on February 6th, 1945. In his youth Marley struggled and survived the ghetto life of Trench Town in Kingston, Jamaica and with success lived on Hope Road in a safer section of Kingston. Bob Marley died at age 36 of metastatic cancer on May 11th, 1981 in Miami, Florida. His resting place is in Nine Miles, Saint Ann in the beautiful hills of rural Jamaica. Fare Thee Well to The Band Beyond Description! The “Fare Thee Well – Celebrated 50 Years of The Grateful Dead” and the historical five show run officially honored the epic 50th Anniversary of The Grateful Dead. The heart of gold band drummers and percussion masters Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, bass guru and vocalist Phil Lesh, and the legendary guitarist and vocalist Bob Weir reunited at The Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California and at Chicago’s Soldier Field in sweet home Chicago. The inimitable iconic Grateful Dead guitarist and vocalist Jerry Garcia and keyboardist and vocalist Brent Mydland performed their last shows in Chicago-land, marking the location in America's mid - west as an appropriate choice for Dead - heads to come together. Soldier Field is the Home of The National Football's League's Chicago Bears and is a magnificent stadium located on the beautiful lakefront of Lake Michigan. The Grateful Dead unite in the Windy City nearly 20 years to the day of the last-ever Grateful Dead concert, which took place at the same venue and proved to be Garcia's swan song performance. Grateful Dead core four members have set their sights further down the golden road and will continue to perform n a variety of projects. Trey Anastasio of Phish performed the technically difficult Garcia licks on Guitar, Jeff Chimenti of RatDog on laid a solid keyboard foundation. The talented Bruce Hornsby graced the piano and has performed with the Grateful Dead for numerous shows in Europe in 1990 and the U.S. after the departure of Brent Mydland. Staying true to form the Grateful Dead rhythm devils performed the traditional drums and space interlude in between sets.
